Coconut Radio inspires video chaos!

The video footage we provide falls under the same Creative Commons License as the audio. You are free to remix and change, as long as it’s for non-commercial purposes (ie. you are not selling it directly), and you include the words “mikooshka,” ulysses castellanos,” and “coconut radio” in your title — make sure to post on your website or YouTube and send us a note so we can have a look and see what you’ve come up with!

Coconut Radio Video Downloads:

These files are AVI (Xvid encoded Mp4 video files) - if you cannot open them use a conversion program (change to quicktime or mpeg2 etc). They are also 720p HD – we encourage you to render your final versions in HD as well (highest format for YouTube). Right click and choose “save as.” Or download from this folder: http://www.radiococoremix.com/av/

How did we do it?

We shot our footage on an HD camera and edited it with old documentary footage on a PC with a program called Sony Vegas. We dropped the original audio file of “Coconut Radio” into the track’s timeline and we were all set. About 50 hours later we were done. You could shoot with your webcam and drop in some of your own Casio beats – it’s all up to you!

How can you do it?

You can get started with a number of tools: on the free side of things on Windows PCs there is a program called “Windows Movie Maker, for Mac there is “iMovie.” You may want to download trial versions (which usually allow you to work with unlimited features for about a month) such as: Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere.

Downloads: Windows Movie Maker for XP, Windows Movie Maker for Vista, Sony Vegas Platinum, Adobe Premiere, Avid Products, Apple iMovie, Apple Final Cut

Where can you get more footage?

The Internet Archive is brimming with lots of cool archival documentary footage and lots of it is copyright free, meaning you can do just about anything with it. the main film we used is a 1930s classic called “Wildmen of the Kalahari.” We also dubbed in footage from “Rally for Castro” and a wicked b-boy film called “Floorgangz.”

We suggest you launch your video director career here with us and contact us if you would like to get your hands on any of the footage from our shoots.
